Welcoming Chinese New Year!

This is a Chinese new year bet because the festive mood is hitting us like a ton of bricks!

We gave each other a Chinese New Year-related bet.

Gary challenged me to....

THE CHINESE ZODIAC BET

You know which Chinese zodiac animals I'm talking about right? Each year is symbolised by an animal. Gary and I were both born in 1987 (post cny) so we were born on the Year of the Rabbit!

He said if I could name all the 12 Chinese animals in order, I would get 20 points! If I named the first six half or second half right I could get 10 points! (<--- this is an example of sympathy points)

To be fair, he'd only offered the bet when I told him the only thing I knew about the Chinese zodiac is that it starts with a rat! 

So here's my guess: (in order)

1. Rat

2. Cow

3. Tiger

4. Rabbit

5. Dragon

6. Snake

7. Horse

8. Goat

9. Monkey

10. Pig

11. Dog

12. Rooster

My guesses are based on: 

- I remember a folk's tale where it said rats and cats don't get along because all the animals were supposed to meet the Gods in heaven to be 'registered' as this chinese zodiac thing but the rat told the cat the wrong date on purpose which is why the cats were left out. Hence they're mortal enemies (think: Tom and Jerry). So I remember seeing the picture of the rat hitched on the back on an animal to on the way up to meet the Gods. I remember the rat riding on a four-legged animal and jumped in front of it when they reached. This story must be so, so wrong but anyway, that was what helped me remember that rats are first! 

- So I made a wild guess that the four legged animal in my memory is a cow... 

- Everyone tries to sync their procreation process to have dragon babies because snake babies are bad! So it was easy to put 'snake' after 'dragon'. 

- The rest... kelam-kabut. I have barely an idea what goes with what. I remember Joey Yap mentioned a horse after this year..? So I just placed that after Snake. Katherine (my younger sister) is a goat and she was born 4 years after me so that's easy. My dad is half a goat and a monkey (because he was born in the dubious month of January) so that was easy as well. 

- I wanted to put the pig as the last because it walks the slowest HAHAHAHAHAHAAHA WTF. But I'm guessing 10th because Gary's niece is 7 years old and she was born in the year of a pig. I think.

- I almost couldn't remember all 12 animals. In a fit of panic I had to ask Gary 'IS THERE A DOG????'.
